In ancient times, amethyst was used in war and battle, as it was believed to protect people and show them the way to victory.
The name comes from the Greek word "amethustos", which means "not drunk". According to an ancient legend, it is said that the stone was the shell of the wine god, Bacchus. He had grown angry with mortals and decided that the next person who crossed his path would be eaten by tigers. He was met by the beautiful young girl Amethyst, who was on her way to worship the goddess Diana. When Diana learned of Bacchus' vow, she immediately transformed Amethyst into a pillar of clear quartz to protect her from the tigers' attack. When Bacchus witnessed this miracle, he regretted his malice and poured wine over Amethyst, which left her with the beautiful purple color.
